Observed on February 14 of each year, Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine is celebrated around the world. Even way back during the 18th century, Valentine’s Day was an occasion when lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting gifts. The most popular gift to send and receive then and this romantic love celebration were flowers. This practice still stands strong today.
Can you guess which flowers are the most popular to give during Valentine’s Day?
If you answered ‘roses’, congratulations, you’ve answered correctly—along with virtually everyone else.
Since roses—red roses, to be exact—signify love, it’s really no surprise that they are as popular as they are. It also helps that roses are easy on the eye, so they’re a pretty safe bet when it comes to giving flowers. Unfortunately, ‘safe’ can also be a euphemism of ‘boring’ and ‘uncreative’. Thus, as nice as roses are, you might want to avoid being that guy or that girl who gives the same thing as everyone else.
Does that mean that you can’t give flowers? No! There are plenty of other types of flowers that you can give to your loved ones during this special occasion which aren’t roses. Here are some meaningful flowers to consider giving.
