Hong Lim Park is Singapore's first privately-owned public garden and is named after a wealthy Chinese businessman, who bought the land in 1876. This is Singapore's Speaker's Corner park since 2000 since this park was also the venue for many election rallies and political speeches during the 1950s and 1960s.
